I was born in a small village in Guizhou Province, China. My father was a constant drunkard and often beat my mother. She could not tolerate it and chose to divorce him when I was only two months old. She wanted so much to take me with her. Yet my grandparents prevented her from doing so. She had no choice but to leave alone with sadness. If I had been taken by mom, I would have a totally different destiny.
When I was two years old, I had a stepmother. She was nice to me at first. Unfortunately, at the age of three, I offended her. One day, I was hungry and asked her for some food. She said, “ I have no time to cook. You can get something to eat by yourself.” I replied, “ If you don’t cook for me, you will know that you are wrong in the future.” My impolite remark angered her immediately. Soon after that, I caught a cold. It was a rainy day. My grandparents had to work in the field and wouldn’t be back until late at night. Before leaving, they told my stepmother to take good care of me. She said yes. But in the afternoon, she breathed dust into my left eye. There was an acute pain. It didn’t improve when evening came. I hurried to the field to see my grandparents. They did not know what to do. Just at that moment, my stepmother showed up and said that she was able to cure eye diseases. She stabbed my right eye with a needle. Blood came out immediately and my eyeball fell out. Grandma cried out of fear. I was sent to hospital and remained unconscious for a couple days. My father, who was working in other cities, managed to come back. At the sight of me, he burst out crying. He regretted leaving me home while working in cities. It was a bolt from the blue when the doctor told the family that my eyes were incurable.
My father gave my stepmother a good beating. For the sake of the family fame, he did not report it to the police. After I was dismissed from the hospital, I started to live with my grandparents. The relationship between my stepmother and my grandparents got tense. She could no longer live in the village and left the village quietly one day as as she was gossiped about a lot there. I spent the darkest days with great difficulty. With grandparents’ care and concern, I grew up. Then my father decided to go to work in cities. When I was seven, my grandmother died, which left me and grandpa in deep sorrow. Over seventy years old, Grandpa was unable to work. My family was reduced to extreme poverty and I was surrounded by loneliness and helplessness every day.
Then, I wanted to go to look for my mother. I did not know where I was going. On the way I suffered hunger from time to time. I was told later that Grandpa was worried about me and went out to look for me, but in vain. He had to go home sadly.
Once when I was crossing the river, I fell into it. Luckily, I was saved by a kind farmer who happened to pass by. Then I arrived in a town where I met with other warm-hearted people. They gave me food when they got to know my situation. I felt bad during the days. Yet the desire of finding mom made me go on. At first, some school children played with me. Later, they stopped playing with me. They looked down upon me. Some even let their dogs bite me. I had no alternative but to leave this town.
The following day, I continued my journey to look for mom. I fell on the way, injuring my jaw. I was cold and panic-stricken. I did not care when I thought of mom. One morning, a kind lady saw me and accommodated me for several days.
Then I got to another town and stayed there for a fortnight. In this town, I was bullied. Even a mute boy bullied me. Later, I met with good people who helped me financially. I saved the money they gave me. Soon my savings reached several hundred yuan. I entrusted an acquaintance with the money. Beyond my expectation, this man never showed up again after he got the money. This infuriated many people.
I left this place and continued to look for mom. One day, I was so tired that I stopped for a rest by a house. Seeing me in rags, a woman asked me, “ Do you want to go to school?” “ Sure. But can a blind man go to school?” said I. “Absolutely. I am a Christian.” I did not know what “Christian” meant. She kindly took me home, let me have a shower and fixed food for me. She contacted the American church workers. They were nice to me. Praise the Lord! I had a chance to go to school .
The school I attended was Guizhou Bible School where I felt the love of the Lord. I learnt braille there. Although I met with difficulty, I never gave up. With the help the American church, I studied there for four years. In 2009 when I was a fifth grader, I was baptized. I was very grateful for what the Lord had done for me.
One day some government officers came to the school and said that those who had been helping me were cheaters. They separated me from them. The government promised to pay my tuition. But in my second year of Middle School, their financial support ceased. Finally I chose to go to Deaf and Mute School where everything was free. In 2014, I went to Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province, to study in a Secondary Specialized School. It was a three-year program. The first two years was devoted to the classroom study. The last year was focused on internship. When I started my internship, I had to adjust myself to the new situations. I had to do many things on my own. I turned to kind-hearted people for help when I was in trouble. So far, I have ever traveled to several provinces. I have been to Shanghai and Guangzhou. I am glad to say that I have made great progress. During the Spring Festival last year, I came back to Guizhou Province. This year I am going to Zhejiang Province. No matter where I go, I am always surrounded by care and love of brothers and sisters. This is the Grace of the Lord. Halleluiah! I have just been admitted by college. I believe that my tuition will be prepared by the Lord.
The above is my testimony. Nobody has experienced what I have experienced. God knows it and has been protecting me in secret. Thank God! |
